Launching Yardstick’s very own video department: 4 types of video every advice firm should have

Big news! The Yardstick Agency has launched its very own video department. We’ve put together a team of two video producers: me and Ellie Challacombe. Our sole aim is creating engaging video content for the advice businesses we work with.

Not sure why video is such a big deal? I’ve got you covered. Check out one of my previous blog posts, Why video is the king of content in 2024: the data every business needs to see for a deep dive into the statistics and benefits behind using videos.

Now that you’re up to speed on why video is essential, let’s explore four types of videos that could significantly boost the online engagement your business receives.

1. Client testimonial videos

Client testimonial videos are our most popular type of video. In just seven months, we’ve already had more than 200 videos booked in!

Why are they so effective? Because they provide powerful social proof, which comes with three key benefits:

  • Building trust and credibility. Potential clients want to hear from real people who have used your services and achieved positive results. Testimonials offer authentic stories and experiences that resonate with viewers.
  • Showcasing expertise. Testimonials allow you to subtly highlight your expertise and the value you provide. When clients share how you helped them overcome financial challenges, it demonstrates your capabilities.
  • Encouraging new conversions. Testimonials can be the deciding factor for potential clients. Seeing and hearing others share their positive experiences can give them the confidence to reach out and engage your services.

Pro tip: Encourage clients to be specific in their testimonials. Instead of just saying “They were great,” have them describe the specific challenges they faced and how your services made a difference.

2. “Frequently asked questions” videos

In today’s digital world, your website is often the first impression potential clients have of your business. Frequently asked questions (FAQ) videos can humanise your brand and build trust.

Here’s how.

  • Videos show your human side. FAQ videos allow you to connect with your audience on a personal level. Showcasing your team and answering common questions helps visitors see the real people behind your brand.
  • You can instantly address common concerns. By addressing common questions and concerns upfront, you can alleviate any hesitation potential clients might have.

Pro tip: Keep your FAQ videos concise and engaging. We can also use visuals and graphics to keep viewers interested.

3. Social media videos

Social media is a powerful platform for building relationships and engaging your audience.

Videos are a fantastic way to do that, because:

  • Videos boost engagement. Videos are inherently more engaging than text or images alone. They capture attention and encourage interaction.
  • You’ll increase your reach. Social media algorithms often favour video content, leading to increased organic reach and visibility.
  • Your content becomes more diverse. Experiment with different types of social media videos, such as explainer videos, behind-the-scenes glimpses, or quick tips related to finance.

Pro tip: Optimise your social media videos for each platform. Create shorter videos for platforms like LinkedIn, TikTok and Instagram, and longer, more in-depth videos for YouTube.

4. Webinars

Webinars are an excellent way to generate leads, provide value to your audience, and position yourself as a thought leader in the finance industry.

Here’s why.

  • Webinars are educational and informative. Use webinars to share valuable insights on relevant topics like retirement planning, investment strategies, or tax efficiency.
  • You can engage with your audience in the moment. Webinars allow for real-time interaction with your audience through Q&A sessions and polls.
  • They’ll help you generate leads. Offer valuable content in your webinars and use them as a lead magnet to capture contact information from interested attendees.

Pro tip: Promote your webinars across multiple channels, including your website, social media, and email marketing.
