As a finance professional, you’ve likely had a busy December. You’ll have been answering post-Budget queries, providing reassurance in the face of escalating global conflicts, and helping your clients get ready for tax year end.
Finding time between meetings to produce written content (let alone decorate a Christmas tree or open your advent calendar!) was never going to be easy. Get through the next couple of hectic weeks, though, and late December could prove the perfect time to block in your article schedule for 2025.
Here are five reasons why this festive period is the perfect time to focus on your blog content.
1. The festive season is a time to think about others
First off, remember why you’re trying to write in the first place.
You’re always there for your clients. Only ever a phone call or email away, you also reach out via annual reviews.
But contact through regular newsletter articles could mean at least 12 touchpoints a year, with even more when that content is linked to your social media. These articles and posts can offer reassurance, answer questions your clients didn’t know they had, and position you as their go-to expert.
If you’ve become lax when it comes to sending regular updates, you might’ve missed countless opportunities to touch base with your clients. Make 2025 the year you repair that mistake.
2. December is perfect for reflection and for finding inspiration in what has gone before
At this time of year, news media and online spaces are dominated by “Best of” lists:
- “Best albums of 2024…”
- “Best books…”
- “Best films…”
- “Best TV shows…”
Before the new year arrives (and January’s associations with looking forward), December is the perfect month to reflect on the last 12 months.
Take a look back at the events of 2024. Which news items resonated most with your clients? What questions were they asking you? In what specific areas did they need advice or reassurance?
Some of 2024’s biggest news stories will inevitably spill over into 2025.
Global conflict, for example, looks set to be a sadly recurrent feature of the new year. November 2024 might’ve been dominated by the US presidential election but January 2025 will see President Trump’s inauguration, with implications for US and global markets. At home, meanwhile, the Autumn Budget will continue to create ripples beyond April’s new tax year.
You know your clients best. Use the events of 2024 to consider what 2025 will hold for them, then use the blogs you publish to provide much-needed guidance.
3. The festive period could provide the downtime you need to focus
It’s important to enjoy some downtime over the festive period.
Recharging your batteries helps you to look after yourself, reconnect with the things that matter most, and ensure you return to the office raring to go on 2 January.
But one area of your business that might be deserving of focus between Christmas and new year is your blog content.
Start by setting time aside. Think about the quietest times of your day or the least busy days of your week. Block these times out but don’t force yourself to write. You could use the time to start or maintain a list of potential topics or areas of research for next year. Then think about a schedule.
4. Festive downtime is ideal for planning future content
You’ll want your 2025 online content to cover evergreen topics but it’ll need to reflect, and be reactive to, current affairs too.
Being topical might not be as difficult as you think.
Celebrations like Valentine’s Day, Father’s Day, and Halloween occur at the same time every year. They could provide the perfect opportunity to talk to your clients about planning finances as a couple, opening the Bank of Family, or avoiding scary pension mistakes in retirement.
Awareness events like Time to Talk Day, Energy Savers Week, and Will Aid Month are also annual, so pencil them in now. When they arrive, you’ll probably want to focus your content on financial wellbeing and mental health, sustainable investing, and estate and legacy planning.
Other events, like President Trump’s inauguration or the Women’s Euro 2025, could also provide you with topical content ideas.
Your schedule doesn’t need to be set in stone, but forming a plan now will relieve the pressure to be creative when the time comes.
5. The end of the year is the perfect time to set realistic goals and resolutions
Use December to take a much-needed moment to breathe, relax, and take stock. You might decide that finding time to write regularly, and with the necessary commitment, just isn’t realistic.
Your new year resolution might be to finally bite the bullet and outsource your content creation. If you make this choice, you’ll be glad to know that The Yardstick Agency is on hand to help.
