We soft-launched the Yardstick Client Connector tool in August. Today, we’re sharing a quick update on the progress we’ve made:

• 57 firms are now listed, making it a valuable resource
• During the trial period in August, the Client Connector tool received 957 visits, underlining the need for it
• Expat advisers have now been added, so when you get an enquiry from someone moving or living overseas, or one of your clients leaves the UK, you can now recommend them to someone who provides specialist advice.

Over the coming weeks and months, we intend to expand the tool to include other areas of specialist advice. And as the number of firms on the directory increases, we’ll consider adding Google and VouchedFor reviews to a firm’s profile to help advisers and planners make a more informed decision about who they introduce consumers to.

Never be a dead end

There are many reasons why a prospective client might not be the right fit for the firm they first approach. For example, their investable assets fall below the firm’s minimum or they require specialist expertise, such as support when moving overseas.

When this happens, the prospective client still needs advice, and you don’t want to be a dead end. However, in my experience, most advisers and planners prefer to make specific introductions, rather than simply referring the consumer to a directory.

And it’s those two problems the Yardstick Client Connector solves.

Then, next time you get an enquiry from someone you can’t help because their asset values are below your minimum, or one of your clients moves overseas, use the tool to find an alternative option.

Honestly, we don’t know what this tool could become.

We know it’s not consumer-focused, and we aren’t turning Yardstick into Unbiased or Money Helper.

Aside from that, we don’t have a strategy or a business plan; we’re just going with the flow to see where it takes us.
