3 reasons why LinkedIn is important for IFAs to show who they are

Let’s face it, social media is everywhere these days. And if you’re not already on it, well, where have you been?

Many financial advisers and planners are missing out and are unsure how to use it to their advantage.

LinkedIn isn’t your average social media platform – it’s a B2B social network.

And, because of this, many advisers stay away from using it, as they want to work with individuals rather than corporate clients.

But most individuals that you want as clients will either own a business or will be employed. And that means they are very likely to be users of LinkedIn.

So, here are three reasons why LinkedIn is important for IFAs to show who they are.

1. Target and connect with specific people

Because LinkedIn was built as a business networking site, it has more information about its members’ professions, employers, and skills than other social networks.

For example, say you are an IFA specialising in financial planning for HR Directors. With LinkedIn’s search facilities, you can easily find all the HR Directors within your network (1st, 2nd or 3rd degree connections) and begin a conversation with them.

Or maybe you want to find local accountants to partner with? Either way, LinkedIn’s ability to filter people based on their profession or industry they work in allows you to focus your marketing and networking efforts on a specific niche audience.

2. Be approachable and show your personality

Professionalism is key, but that doesn’t mean that you have to talk about work all the time.

Sometimes, it’s the off-topic posts like talking about what you got up to at the weekend or discussing your football team which get the most engagement because it is easy for people to comment on them.

It doesn’t matter that it’s not directly related to what you do for a living – it still helps you to get noticed and creates awareness of you and your business.

3. Build trust and position yourself

Think of your LinkedIn profile as your online version of your CV for everyone to see.

It is your opportunity to position yourself as an expert, showcasing your skills, experience, and qualifications.

This is your chance to show potential clients and connections what you bring to the table and why they should trust you with their finances.
